Welcome to Tuesday's Together in the Word. We are a group of women reading God's Word based on a reading plan posted on DeeDee's website. We share a nugget or three about what we've read. I would encourage you to jump in - no need to start at the beginning, just jump right in and read with us. Be sure to link up over at DeeDee's and share your gleanings with us, too. This week we read:
  • Mark 12-16
  • Psalm 37
  • I Peter 1
I wanted to share an observation from Mark 14:3-9 (MSG)

"Jesus was at Bethany, a guest of Simon the Leper. While he was eating dinner, a woman came up carrying a bottle of very expensive perfume. Opening the bottle, she poured it on his head. Some of the guests became furious among themselves. "That's criminal! A sheer waste! This perfume could have been sold for well over a year's wages and handed out to the poor." They swelled up in anger, nearly bursting with indignation over her.
But Jesus said, "Let her alone. Why are you giving her a hard time? She has just done something wonderfully significant for me. You will have the poor with you every day for the rest of your lives. Whenever you feel like it, you can do something for them. Not so with me.
She did what she could when she could—she pre-anointed my body for burial. And you can be sure that wherever in the whole world the Message is preached, what she just did is going to be talked about admiringly." (Emphasis, mine)
Jesus was clear that what she did would be written in history and talked about admiringly. Who doesn't love her total unabandoned sacrifice? And, it is talked about admiringly all these centuries later.

Praise God that His Word never ends!!!!! That everything He prophesies comes to pass.

I am reminded:

"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever." ~ Isaiah 40:8 (ESV)

I love the song "the Alabaster Box" and actually started to blog about this passage and post the song... then we were able to get the video of our church's service, so I changed my mind.
Thanks for being so faithful in joining us each week.
Sweet Blessings!

This passage always speaks to my heart... her unabandoned love and adoration for her Savior, driving her to pour out her all for Him... it is just precious. And isn't He definitely worth our all!

Blessings!

Laurie Ann, I love the spiritual truths you share.

I read the post before this one about trusting God. I too want to pour out my prayers before Him and trust Him with every part of my life. (I often fail to be that broken and yielded, but I so desire to do that.)

And like the story you shared in this post, I would love to pour forth a blessing like this unto my Lord. That special oneness with Him sounds so wonderful. I could almost smell the fragrance of a life poured forth like that fragrant perfumed oil.

In His Love,
Linda
